Port Allen- Explorations in Genealogy is pleased to welcome Stella Carline Tanoos who will speak on Canary Islanders: Isleno's of Louisiana. This presentation will be held at the West Baton Rouge Museum. 

Where did Canary Islanders come from? How did they get to Louisiana? What has been their contribution to the culture of the state? This lecture will cover these topics as well as Canary Islander names and how and why they have changed over time. 

Stella retired from The Dow Chemical Company in 2007 after 33 years of service. She has devoted her time and energy to genealogy and Louisiana History, especially the lost history on the cattle drives of Louisiana. Stella's roots are from the Bayou Chene area of the Atchafalaya Basin and has used her knowledge and friendships to help the Iberville Museum create a permanent exhibit dedicated to the history of the Atchafalaya basin and its wonderful history. She is a member of many genealogical societies and sits on the Board of Directors of Le Comite des Archives de la Louisiane and the Iberville Museum.
